The Holy Spirit and the early Church
This month, we’re seeing the Holy Spirit work through the people of the early Church. Here’s what we’re looking at in each session:
1. Peter and John (Acts 3)
Peter and John are on the way to the temple, when they meet a man who can’t walk. (You can pause here to sing the old children’s song, if you remember it!) Through them, the Holy Spirit makes the man well and opens up a way to tell the story of Jesus to a whole load of people!
2. Stephen and friends (Acts 6:1-15)
Stephen and six of his friends are chosen to help the disciples run the early Church. Filled with the Holy Spirit, they work for God and thousands of people join the community.
3. Philip and the Ethiopian (Acts 8:26-40)
Philip, one of Stephen’s co-workers, follows the Spirit’s guidance and meets with a man who serves the Ethiopian queen. He is reading the scriptures, but doesn’t understand what they mean. Philip explains everything and the man is baptised immediately.
4. Saul and Jesus (Acts 9:1-31)
Saul has been persecuting Christians, but meets Jesus on his way to Damascus. This dramatic encounter turns his life around and he goes onto be one of the most influential evangelists of all time, better known as his Roman name, Paul.
