Christmas isn’t long since gone, and Easter may still be a few months away, but it’s never too early to start planning Easter youth meetings or to start thinking about chocolate!
More than 80 million chocolate Easter eggs are sold each year in the UK, and new for this year is The Real Easter Egg - the UK’s first and only Easter egg to mention Jesus anywhere on the box. The Fairtrade egg explains the Christian understanding of Easter on the pack and supports charity and development projects, buying everything from medical equipment for new mums here at home, to chicken and fresh water for farmers in Africa. They do this all this while giving a fair deal the farmers who produce the ingredients going into the egg.
The Meaningful Chocolate Company Ltd developed the egg and with the help of bishops, schools and parents it was launched to a warm welcome in September 2010. You can buy the eggs through a group order as a church, school or other organisation to get involved, or if you’re feeling peckish enough you can just buy a box for yourself. Get in quick though - orders for the eggs have to be in by January 31st with the eggs delivered by the beginning of April. They are also trying to campaign supermarkets to stock them if demand is high enough. You can find out more information, place orders and join the campaign at www.realeasteregg.co.uk
