ACTION 1: Not just for old ladies

When you want to buy a new item of clothing, try to find something in a charity shop first.

Charity shops are a great way to shop ethically; we get to buy clothes, give to charity, reduce demand for new clothes from companies that may not pay people a fair wage, and reduce the amount of natural resource we use. The art of charity shopping requires patience and an eye for bargains, but practice makes perfect and you can end up picking up some great quality clothes and vintage stuff.

ACTION 2: Lock up your wallet

Buy nothing for a day. Take the time to thank God for what you already have.

For one day, leave your wallet at home. We have so many things in our lives to be thankful for and this action helps us to notice them and take time to say thank you. It also helps us to notice the times where we spend money on stuff we may not need, or spend money without really noticing.

ACTION 3: Fast for freedom

Go without food for a day. Use the experience to remember those who go hungry for days.

We often find it hard to understand what life is like for people living in poverty, but there are small actions we can take in order to stand in solidarity with them. Going without food for a day will challenge us to pray more, help us talk to mates about why you’re doing it, and help us step into someone else’s shoes for a day.
