LOOM BANDS
2014 – the year of the loom band. No one fully understands the science of loom bands – but this series of disparate individual pieces of elastic somehow come together to form something magnificent, something bigger than themselves, something that really makes a difference. This is much like the Church, or, perhaps more relevantly, the Power Rangers.
SUMMER FILMS
What a summer of films – 12-year projects being completed (
Boyhood), apes starting revolutions (
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and racoons with guns (
Guardians of the Galaxy). We’ve incorporated elements from all of these into
Premier Youthwork office life: the underlings (designers) are attempting to overthrow those in power, we’ve got a pet racoon (without a gun) and the next issue will be out in September 2026.
SCOOTERS
Kids on scooters are a hazard. But even more of a problem is adults - adult humans - on scooters. These aren’t petrol-driven scooters we’re talking about – these are the leg driven, push-powered, early-2000s style of scooter. With that comeback in mind here are some others we suggest: hair braiding, Pokemon cards and
Clarissa Explains it All.
BRITISH SPORT
It wasn’t a vintage summer for British sport. Andy Murray couldn’t defend his Wimbledon crown, England crashed out of the World Cup and the Brits couldn’t even stay on their bike in the Tour de France. On top of that, the
Premier Youthwork team lost in the final of the European Youth Ministry Magazines Conkers Championship to our German counterparts -
Das Yuffverk.
