Conference
The Youth Evangelism Conference takes place on Saturday 27th February. The event is a partnership between Youth for Christ, Alpha, Urban Saints, Scripture Union and HOPE. YFC’s Phil Knox said: ‘If Britain is going to be reached for Jesus, it is most likely going to be through young people. The Youth Evangelism Conference will be a glorious day of inspiration and equipping, to release a generation of Kingdom-living, gospelsharing, prayer-spitting, love-bearing teenagers.’
Open me season two
The second season of Youthscape’s Open Me devotional, aimed at helping youth leaders develop character, launches in February. This series of six interactive studies focuses on integrity, with writers including Jarrod McKenna, looking at how that characteristic is modelled in Jesus’ life. Each week’s online article is accompanied by a surprise ‘extra’ element to help embed the theme in everyday life.
Educating young people about female genital mutilation
A new website has been launched to help educate young people about female genital mutilation. The practice, illegal in England and Wales, can cause infection, problems in childbirth and even death. Everybody’s Business (fgm-every-bodys-biz.co.uk) aims to help people spot the signs of abuse.
Raising the minimum age for social media
The EU is discussing increasing the minimum age for social media sites from 13 to 16. The new legislation would mean that under 16s would need permission from parents to sign up to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Digital media expert Bex Lewis said authorities were already struggling to enforce the current age restriction and that a better approach would be to ‘create an environment that people feel safer in.’
