A week of prayer for young people
All this week, the organisers of next Saturday’s Youth Work Summit event (which include Premier Youthwork) are inviting you to join them in praying for the young people of the UK. You can find out a bit more about the idea here. Each day, we’ll be posting a few prayer pointers on here, as well as suggesting some of the people and organisations that you might like to join us in praying for who work in that area.
We’ve already prayed for some of the major issues facing young people in the culture in which they’re growing up - but today we’re going to focus on perhaps our ultimate prayer for young people: that they’ll find faith in - and a transformational relationship with - Jesus Christ. We’re going to pray this for the young people we know, and the young people in our communities, plus for some of the organisations working locally and nationally in the areas of evangelism and discipleship among young people.
Suggested prayer points:
- Pray for the young people who are known to you who are on the fringes of faith
- Pray for the Christian young people in your area, that they would have boldness - and feel equipped - to share their faith with their friends
- Pray for youth and schools workers in your area who have a gift for or specific focus on mission, and for youth groups at churches near you, working hard to disciple young people
Some organisations and individuals working in this area:
- Youth Alpha, Christianity Explored Youth, and others seeking to explain faith to young people
- YFC, at the forefront of mission to young people, through their work in local centres throughout the country
- Urban Saints, working in churches with young people across the UK and helping to disciple them for long-term faith
- Soul Survivor and Newday, currently planning national events at which young people will be given an opportunity to respond to the gospel
As ever, share your reflections on twitter using the hashtag #prayforyouth. Or don’t, if you prefer!
