Girls in Gangs abused
A report from the Centre for Social Justice has shown that thousands of girls and young women experience brutality and exploitation as part of gang culture. The study, carried out with XLP, said that sexual exploitation, guns and drug-running are ‘a daily reality’ for thousands of young women. The report, entitled ‘Girls and Gangs’, calls for urgent action to fight the problem, criticising the Home Office for not doing enough to fight gang culture since the 2011 riots.

Girls as Young as 11 sexually exploited
Two reports published by the Office of the Children’s Commissioner have warned that the level of sexual violence in neighbourhoods dominated by gangs and gang culture is comparable to that of a warzone. Professor Jenny Pearce, author of one of the reports entitled It’s wrong… but you get used to it, said: ‘In some areas the level of sexual violence and the types of violence inflicted are comparable to how sexual violence is used in war-torn territories.’
