The Arts Group Centre has an exciting new competition for 2017. They are looking for young writers under the age of 21, to send in their writing. The theme is ‘Faith in a contemporary context’. They are looking for original and thought-provoking scripts for a short play.

You may want to look at some of the bigger, broader themes of faith today: women in church, social media, politics or anything else that fits the modern context. You may prefer to focus on something more personal. Your faith can give you a completely different angle on life as you look out at the world around you and face the challenges of growing up. Hopefully, it has helped you when you have faced difficulties or struggled with who you are. It can also lead to challenging situations where you have to stand up for what you believe in. This is a chance for you to express that in the form of a drama.

Along with a £300 prize, there is a chance to see your play performed by professional actors in a rehearsed play reading at a central London venue.

Entrances must be around 30 minutes long, and contain one to five characters. To enter will cost £10 for unwaged and students, £20 if you are working. If you want a detailed commentary by one of the Art’s Group team it will be an extra £25.

The theme can be taken in any direction you feel is right. All applications should be sent to www.artscentregroup.org.uk/dramaaward.php by September 18th 2017. For more details on the requirements and how to apply, go to www.artscentregroup.org.uk/events.php.

The previous winner of 2014 was Emma Rogerson with her piece entitled The Sad Truth. At just 16 years old, her piece wowed the judges. If you would like to be the next winner, you had better get writing as the deadline is in just a few weeks!

The Arts Group Centre is a Christian organisation that exists to get people involved in the arts and support them in that role, whatever that role may be.
