SYNOPSIS
The First Order reigns. Having decimated the republic, Supreme Leader Snoke deploys his legions to seize military control of the galaxy. Only General Leia Organa’s band of resistance fighters stands against the rising tyranny. But the Resistance has been exposed. As the First Order speeds toward the rebel base, the brave heroes mount a desperate escape
The clip for this session focuses on Luke Skywalker as he rebuffs Rey’s request to help the resistance. Luke surprised many fans by remaining a recluse, rather than the conquering hero they expected. He shuns his former way of life as a failed cult and cut himself off from ‘the force’ completely. Luke refuses to train Rey, as he is still suffering over the fact that his former pupil Ben Solo turned to the dark side as Kylo Ren.

After watching the clip, break into small groups to discuss the following questions:
- How do you think Rey is feeling in this clip?
- Is Luke no longer a hero for refusing to help the resistance?
- Luke seems scared by Rey’s potential. Is he right to try to limit her given the dangers of developing her skills further?
- Have you ever been let down by someone you looked up to? How did it make you feel?
Once you’ve had your first set of discussions, read 2 Samuel 12:1-22 together. It’s worth giving your group a rundown on David’s rise to glory as well as his actions in the previous chapters. Break off into small groups to discuss the following questions:
- How do you think Nathan feels meeting someone great like David but knowing about his previous bad actions?
- How does David respond to Nathan’s accusations? Would you respond in the same way?
- Is David still a hero at this point?
- Is God wrong for using someone like David to carry out his work on earth?
