The blind spot
I have a sneaking suspicion that I have become less patient in my old age. I noticed it this week in my family relationships (and they very generously confirmed my suspicions back to me!).

Starting a mentoring programme
The first mentoring programme I set up was almost entirely accidental. It was essentially the product of an unconscious emphasis I had toward building empowering and supportive relationships with young people.

I’ve done something really stupid. I entered myself into an Ironman triathlon next July: a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run.

I had a good friend growing up. We’d walk to school together each day and I’d be in and out of his house so much that I considered his family friends too.

Patience
Seb sat grinning at the table while Liam poked him in the face. We were at our annual residential. Seb was one of the leaders and the kind of guy who never stopped smiling; he was full of patience and kindness. On this occasion Seb was being severely tested. For a full 20 minutes, Liam, 16, amicably poked Seb in the face to see what it would take to break him. Seb kept laughing - I think in the end he did crack but only as far as brushing his hand away with another laugh. It was amazing!

The third person
Seeing things from an outside perspective can be a real benefit to achieving progress, insight, and hopefully change. When you are in the thick of things yourself it can be really hard to see the obvious mistakes you are making or understand anyone else’s point of view.

Faith and Deeds
Last month a friend of mine posted a comment online about how much pain he was in from a persistent knee problem. I knew he wasn’t a Christian but felt compassion for him and had faith that God could heal his knee.
