Have we forgotten overseas mission?
A few years ago - the sight of a tanned, heavily braceletted 19 year-old with braided hair strolling through the doors of church after a life-changing six months in Africa was a fairly common one. The pendulum of missional thinking now seems to have swung in the opposite direction – with less and less young people travelling abroad, choosing instead to spend their year out in the UK on an urban mission placement or church internship. This should also be an encouragement for any Christians visiting schools to seek out what it means for them to share their faith with demonstration, dialogue and discernment.

Mission work isn’t just in Africa
When the words ‘mission’ or ‘missionary’ are mentioned, our minds can immediately fill up with images of young people and adults travelling to Africa and taking endless pictures of themselves with orphans, showing off their sunburnt shoulders and strap marks. But is this really what mission is about? Youthwork’s work experience student Sanna Hubbard explains what mission can look like for young people, here in the UK.
